The annual meeting of the ASAFG (Southern Africa Focal Group) was officially opened today, Monday, April 14, 2025, in Ivato. The event is organized by the Road Fund of Madagascar under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Works.

The Minister of Public Works, Mr. RAFIDISON Richard Théodore , officially inaugurated the meeting and called for strengthened collaboration and knowledge-sharing among member countries. He stated that “bold policy-making and strong cooperation are essential to address the challenges brought by electric vehicles and technological advancements in road maintenance.”

Representatives from eight SADC member countries are gathered in Madagascar for this event, which centers on the theme: “The Future of Road Maintenance through New Technologies and Electric Vehicles.”

By hosting this meeting, Madagascar reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to innovation and regional cooperation, particularly in the field of sustainable transport.

During the three-day meeting, participants will engage in discussions and exchange experiences on the technical, financial, and environmental challenges of road maintenance, especially in light of the energy transition. Special attention will be given to the integration of smart technologies and the incorporation of electric vehicles into road maintenance strategies

This initiative highlights the Malagasy Government’s determination to develop sustainable solutions and to promote cooperation with road funds across Africa.
